Making a Fathers Day tie is surprisingly easy to make and can be done by kids of all ages with some adult help. Get creative using stencils, handprints, or drawing pictures for dad’s tie.

How to make a Father’s Day tie
Using a polyester tie, crayons, and an iron we are going to make a personalized tie for dad that he can wear.
Supplies needed to make a Father’s Day tie
If you want the artwork to be permanent on the tie, use one with the highest polyester count; ours is 100% polyester.
Instructions to make a Father’s Day tie
Kids can do everything except use the iron which makes this a really easy craft to do with kids of all ages.
Step 1
Using a plain white piece of paper and the fabric crayons draw a picture. You can use stencils (as we did), draw freehand, or scribble lots of colors. You may need to color several sheets of paper to cover the entire tie, or you can just do one sheet to have a design on the bottom of the tie.
Craft tip: Remember when drawing and using stencils that you need to make the mirror image of what will appear on the tie because you’ll be turning the picture over to iron it on.
Step 2
Read the instructions on the back of the fabric crayon box with the ironing instructions. Make sure to put a piece of paper underneath the tie so that you don’t iron any colors onto the surface you are ironing on.
Repeat this process if you have multiple sheets of paper.

What We learned when making a Father’s Day tie
As you can see from the above image, the colors on the tie turn out much brighter than how they look on the paper so don’t be afraid to use darker colors. The longer you iron them the brighter they appear.

Materials
- Polyester tie – light colored or white (preferred)
- Fabric crayons
- Plain white paper
- Stencils (optional)
Instructions
- Draw your design on a piece of paper using the fabric crayons. Make sure to press hard and go over the design a couple of times. You can use stencils, freehand, write words, or simply scribble colors.
- Place a piece of paper underneath the tie on the ironing board. Place the design face down on top of the tie and following the instructions on the crayon packet iron the design onto the tie. You can repeat this if you have more than one piece of paper if you plan on covering the whole tie.
