According to my seven-year old, this technique for making ribbon flowers is the easiest ribbon flower you can make. I will take that as an endorsement of this simple ribbon flower technique!
Supplies Needed to Make Ribbon Flowers
How Much Ribbon do I Need to Make a Ribbon Flower?
You will need roughly 1 foot of ribbon for each flower, less for a smaller flower (more if your ribbon is thick).
Steps to Make Easy Ribbon Flowers
Step 1 – Loose Stitch Edge of Ribbon
Using your needle and thread, sew along one edge of the ribbon with a very loose stitch.
Step 2 – Gather the Ribbon
Next, pull the strings to gather the ribbon into bunches.
Step 3 – Rotate into Flower Shape
Swirl the ribbon until it makes a “flower”.
Step 4 – Secure Ribbon Flower
We knotted the strings together after the flower was formed, then hot glued the flower to a “backing” to keep it in a “flower” shape.

Materials
- 1 Foot (12 inches) of Ribbon (less for a smaller flower & more if your ribbon is thick)
- Thread
- (Optional) Embellishments like rhinestones, lace and pearls
Tools
- Needle
- Scissors
- (Optional) Glue gun with glue
Instructions
- With a threaded needle, make loose stitches along one side of the 12 inch ribbon piece and cut generous thread at needle end when completed.
- Pull on the loose thread ends bunching the ribbon along the loose stitch seam until gathered equally.
- Hold onto one end of the gathered ribbon piece and rotate or twist the ribbon around and around in a circular direction until you have created a flower shape.
- Knot the ends of the thread together to secure ribbon flower shape.
- (Optional) Reinforce the bottom of the flower and knot with hot glue.
